Project Black
An adventure on dangerous alien worlds
Project Black is a third-person fantasy shooter, following the story of Hafeez and his sister, Neisha, who both find themselves at the mercy of an alien world. On their journey, they gain unusual powers that allow them to bend the environment to their will, allowing them to find a way out of a beautiful, but dangerous alien planet filled with lush vegetation and intelligent creatures.
Embracer Group layoffs & project shut down
As Fishlabs is under the Embracer Group umbrella, it was also affected by cuts and layoffs. This led to the effective shut-down of its projects, laying-off 50 people just before the end of 2023 - the reason having no connection to the amazing work and effort that was put into Project Black by the talented developers, and the project's unbelievable potential.
Developing the Audio & Tools
Even though my time at Fishlabs was shorter than I would have liked, I have worked amongst extremely talented people and got to dive deep into Unreal 5.2 and a heavily modified Wwise implementation.

- Maintained the project's Wwise implementation through 2 Wwise & 1 Engine version upgrades
- Maintained build jobs for AI voice-over generation & sound banks generation
- A dynamic Reverb system, implemented as a world subsystem, that calculates the size of the room in which the player is in, and applies correct Reverb RTPCs and Aux sends for all events
- Automated Listener setup, requiring no manual configuration, that positions the listener and distance probe correctly, regardless of level, player or game mode
Audio:
- GPU Profiler Diff Plugin : A tool for technical artists to compare two GPU Profile captures, and display diff-ing metrics between two GPU snapshots
- Maintained and expanded a custom validation plugin, integrated with Perforce, that performs automatic checks over game assets
